Trump: Board of Peace will monitor the UN

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said his Peace Board would "oversee" the performance of the United Nations (UN).

Trump boasted of strengthening the international organization amid the issue of the Board of Peace trying to seize the global authority of the UN Security Council in regulating conflicts and maintaining international peace.

"I think the United Nations (UN) will be much stronger. The Peace Council will almost oversee the UN and ensure that the organization runs well," Trump said in his opening speech at the first meeting of the Peace Board on Thursday, February 19 WIB.

"We will strengthen the UN. We will ensure that the facilities are good," he continued.

Trump then alluded to the United Nations, which he considered potentially needing financial assistance to ensure the organization remained "sustainable."

The Board of Peace has raised significant concerns from European and EU leaders. They fear that the council is designed to undermine or operate in parallel with the UN.
