Ali Shaath, Head of Gaza Administration, Attends Board of Peace, Sitting Close to President Prabowo

JAKARTA - The head of the Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with handling the daily administration of Gaza after the more than two-year Israeli military offensive, Ali Shaath, has been in Washington.

Two Palestinian officials familiar with the committee said Shaath's arrival was to attend the inaugural meeting of the US President Donald Trump's Gaza Peace Board (BoP).

"Ali Shaath... arrived in Washington at dawn to participate in a meeting of the Peace Council in Washington," a source told AFP.

"Shaath is scheduled to deliver a speech outlining the general framework of his plan for the first 100 days. He is accompanied by committee officials responsible for the financial portfolio," he continued.

Another committee member confirmed to AFP that Shaath arrived in Washington "after receiving an invitation yesterday to attend the meeting".

Ali Shaath is known as the Chairman of the Gaza National Administration Committee, one of four bodies appointed to manage the transition phase in the region. The formation is part of US President Donald Trump's 20-point proposal to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza by the end of September 2025.

Furthermore, Trump then formed the Board of Peace to realize peace in Gaza by not including the Palestinian authority but involving Israel as the only country that destroyed Gaza.

The first meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington took place on Thursday, February 19, WIB evening. Indonesia is included in the 'Group 8' countries present at the meeting along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan.

During the meeting, Trump is expected to detail his pledge to pump more than $5 billion into Gaza.

The meeting also discussed how to launch an International Stabilization Force that would ensure security in Gaza after the Israeli military offensive.
