East Java Police Disrupt 33 Kg of Opium

SURABAYA - The East Java Regional Police thwarted the circulation of 33 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, which was suspected to be part of an inter-regional network, after monitoring for almost two months and securing a suspect on the Surabaya toll road.

"Last Friday, our members managed to secure a suspect with the initials RG on the toll road. From the suspect's hand, initially 4 kilograms of methamphetamine were found," said Director of Narcotics Investigation of the East Java Police, Kombes Muhammad Kurniawan in Surabaya, Thursday, February 19, reported by ANTARA.

He explained that from the results of the development, officers again found another 6 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine stored in separate packaging in a cardboard box so that the total evidence from suspect RG reached 10 kilograms.

Kurniawan said the packaging of methamphetamine shown in the press conference had similar characteristics even though the weight was different and was suspected to be in the same network. However, the police have not been able to elaborate further because there are other suspects who have escaped and are now on the wanted list (DPO).

"From the characteristics of the packaging and the condition of the goods, it is likely that this comes from the same network. But we are still investigating," he said.

In addition to the disclosure of 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, the East Java Police also secured 23 kilograms of methamphetamine in a different case which was planned to be sent out of Surabaya to Kalimantan. The details of the distribution route are still confidential for the sake of developing the case.

Meanwhile, from January to mid-February 2026, the East Java Police revealed 555 police reports of narcotics cases with a total of 724 suspects.
