Man Drowned in Sunter River Flow Finally Found Dead by Joint SAR Team

JAKARTA - The Basarnas rescue team from the Jakarta SAR Office together with other joint SAR elements finally managed to find a man who drowned in Kali Sunter, Jalan Danau Sunter Barat, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

The victim was found dead on Wednesday night, February 18 at around 22.45 WIB. Later it was found out that the victim was named Vendi (51)

When found, the victim's body was difficult to float on the surface of the water at a radius of 20 meters from the scene.

"The victim was finally found last night and immediately evacuated to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for further processing. Then handed over to the family," said Dantim Jakarta SAR Office, Herlan Soeltan when confirmed, Thursday, February 19, 2026.

In the process of searching for the victim, his party carried out a search by searching using a rubber boat.

In addition, the Jakarta SAR Office rescue personnel also use an instrument called Aqua Eye to detect objects under the water surface, and also anchors.

"The search by land along the banks of the Sunter River was also carried out as far as 500 meters from the location of the incident," he said.

The SAR operation was carried out involving dozens of joint SAR personnel consisting of the Jakarta SAR Office, Tanjung Priok Police, Babinsa Kodim 0502, BPBD North Jakarta, Damkar North Jakarta, PMI North Jakarta, PPSU North Jakarta, Redkar, Equatorial, and Aparatur Kelurahan Sunter Agung.

Previously reported, an unidentified man was reported missing after drowning in the stream of Jalan Danau Sunter Barat, RT 09/03, Sunter Agung Village, Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta.

The Tanjung Priok Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Handam Samudro, who led the investigation of the crime scene for the report, said that the victim was still being searched by the SAR and BPBD teams in the stream of Jalan Danau Sunter Barat.

"After checking the crime scene, 2 bottles of liquor (miras) alcohol were found in the area of the incident. Until I was drowned, the victim has not been found," said AKP Handam when confirmed, Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
