Fuel Carrier Aircraft Crashes in East Krayan, Pilot is Allegedly Dead

NUNUKAN - An aircraft carrying fuel oil (BBM) reportedly crashed before landing in the Krayan area, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan. The aircraft is known to have departed for the center of the Krayan Induk District.

Initial information states that the aircraft belonging to Pelita Air which transported fuel for the needs of the border community. The plane was reported to have crashed in the East Krayan area.

The South Krayan Regent, Oktavianus Ramli, confirmed the incident. He said the plane was carrying fuel from Tarakan for distribution in the Krayan area.

"The information is only one person on the plane, namely the pilot. It is said that the pilot had parachuted, but the chronology is still being investigated," said Oktavianus, Thursday, February 19.

The plane is suspected to be related to the distribution of Pertamina's fuel, which has been supplying energy needs to remote areas on the Indonesia-Malaysia border.

Oktavianus said a joint team with the sub-district apparatus and local residents had headed to the scene to search and evacuate.

"The latest information we received, the pilot was found dead. The condition of the plane was charred and burned," he concluded.

Until now, there has been no official statement from the police, Pertamina or aviation authorities and airlines related to the cause of the accident.
