Pramono Promises Normal Prices for Curly Chili Again in Two Weeks, DKI Prepares Intervention

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung claims that the price of curly chilies, which is currently rising, will return to normal in the next one to two weeks.

This responds to the price of red sweet peas (CRM) which is now expensive. At the Kramat Jati Central Market, the price for the best quality is now ranging from Rp. 75,000 to Rp. 90,000 per kilogram.

The surge in chili prices is one of the commodities that must be handled because it has an impact on inflation, especially ahead of the momentum of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr when demand tends to increase.

The DKI Provincial Government is preparing intervention steps to hold back the price surge ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. According to him, with the weather conditions starting to improve and the government's intervention steps, prices will soon be under control.

"I am confident that in the next one or two weeks, the price of chili in Jakarta can be normal again. Why can it be normal again, because we will intervene," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, February 19.

The intervention scheme is carried out by the government's purchase of chili, which is then distributed to traders with a certain profit margin so that prices remain under control.

"We will buy chili and then sell it to retailers or traders, giving a profit of Rp. 5 thousand so that the price can be controlled because I believe that in this way the inflation in Jakarta can definitely be controlled. And we have done this for that," said Pramono.

Pramono admitted that the increase in the price of curly chilies occurred because the supply from the production center area decreased. Then the supply from Java and South Sulawesi decreased due to high rainfall.

"The supply from Java and South Sulawesi has decreased due to rain. So this rainfall causes a decrease but with the current rainfall starting to fall," he explained.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime, and Agriculture (KPKP) Office, Hasudungan Sidabalok, stated that the price increase was a concern for the local government because there was a fairly high disparity between the production center and the consumption market.

The DKI Provincial Government together with related parties has held a coordination meeting on Sunday, February 15, 2026, to formulate stabilization measures.

A number of production areas are said to be entering the harvest period, including Pangalengan, Cimenyan, Banyu Resmi, Garut, Sumedang, Semarang, Sleman, Magelang, Mojokerto, Blitar, and Banyuwangi.

"The estimate in the next 2 weeks is that the price of CRM at the Kramat Jati Central Market will gradually decrease because in some production areas they will start harvesting," he said.

To suppress prices, the National Food Agency will run the Food Distribution Facility (FDP) by buying chili from Java Island and/or South Sulawesi and distributing it through traders at the Kramat Jati Central Market at a maximum retail price of Rp5,000 per kg above the purchase price.

Supply from South Sulawesi will also be boosted by 2-3 tons per day by referring to the Kramat Jati Central Market price.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Directorate of Food, Maritime and Agriculture ensures that the sale price from retailers to consumers is in accordance with the specified price," he concluded.
