LRT Jakarta Allows Passengers to Break the Fast on the Train, Maximum 10 Minutes After the Azan

JAKARTA - LRT Jakarta has set the conditions for breaking the fast for passengers during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 Masehi. Passengers are allowed to eat and drink in the train until 10 minutes after the Magrib call to prayer.

This policy applies so that customers who are still on the way when the time of breaking the fast arrives can still break their fast without having to wait to get off at the destination station.

Head of the Corporate Secretary Division of PT LRT Jakarta, Sheila Indira Maharshi, said there were rules that passengers must observe when breaking the fast in the train or in the station area.

"Passengers can break the fast by eating light food or drinks, but we urge them not to eat food with a pungent smell," Sheila said in a statement, Thursday, February 19.

Outside of that time, the rules prohibiting eating and drinking on the train remain in place as usual.

During Ramadan, the operation of the Jakarta LRT has not changed. The train continues to operate every day from 05.30 to 23.00 WIB with an arrival distance between cars (headway) of 10 minutes.

A number of Jakarta LRT stations are also equipped with musala facilities to make it easier for passengers to carry out their prayers. Retail areas at the station are still operating so that passengers can buy food or soft drinks to break the fast before continuing their journey.

With this scheme, passengers who are still on the journey when Magrib arrives can still break the fast practically without disturbing the comfort of other users.

"Jakarta LRT optimizes services during Ramadan by providing comfort and safety during travel," said Sheila.
