DPR leadership ensures there is no proposal for the KPK to return to the old law
JAKARTA - The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives ensures that there is no proposal regarding the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law back to the old version.
This was said by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal in response to the large number of KPK proposals to return to the old law.
"There is no proposal in the DPR either. So we remain consistent that the law that is already in place let it go," said Cucun at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, February 19.
Cucun even ensured that there was a mechanism related to the proposed amendment to the DPR, let alone the KPK Law which is currently in force.
"If, for example, there is a proposal from the DPR or from the government regarding any law, not just the KPK Law, there must be a mechanism," said Cucun.
Previously, the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Jokowi approved the proposal of former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad to return the KPK Law to the old version. Jokowi also alluded to the fact that the KPK Law version was the result of the DPR's initiative.
"Yes, I agree, it's good (the KPK Law back to the old version), because it was the DPR's initiative, you know. Don't get it wrong, it's the DPR's initiative," said Jokowi in Solo, Friday, December 13.
Jokowi admitted that the KPK Law was revised while he was president at the initiative of the DPR. However, he admitted that he did not sign the revised law.
"Yes, it is (the revision of the KPK Law). At that time, it was revised at the initiative of the DPR, but I did not sign," he said.
