Indonesia - India Strengthen Digital Partnership for Inclusive and Sovereign AI Ecosystem
JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital confirms its commitment to cooperate with India in creating an inclusive, sovereign, and sustainable digital ecosystem for both countries.
During a meeting with the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India, S. Krishnan on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria highlighted the importance of Indonesian-Indian collaboration in facing challenges and opportunities in the digital era.
"This strategic partnership will be a strong foundation for both countries to jointly shape a brighter Asian digital future, where technology becomes a driving force for equality and inclusive growth," he said, quoted Thursday, February 19.
In this cooperation, Indonesia and India agreed to expand collaboration in a number of key areas, ranging from the development of AI and new technologies.
Indonesia expressed its interest in adopting India's approach to democratizing AI, ensuring that AI accessibility is not monopolized by a few parties, but can be reached by startups and the wider community.
Collaboration will also focus on the development of culturally relevant and secure Sovereign AI, protecting national data interests, and being in line with domestic regulations.
Then, Indonesia is exploring the adaptation of the Aadhaar India model to increase transparency and efficiency of public services through Digital Identity. Cooperation will also include GovTech initiatives to create seamless inter-governmental coordination through digital platforms.
India also offers support for chip design through the World's Largest Chip Design Support Facility which currently helps more than 300 academic institutions and 100 startups, opening up opportunities for Sharing Infrastructure for Indonesia.
In terms of cybersecurity, this cooperation will establish a channel for sharing information between CERT-In India and related institutions in Indonesia will be a priority to detect and mitigate cross-border cyber threats through CERT Coordination.
Lastly, both countries agreed to utilize the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) of India in the Skills Enhancement program, including training, and digital literacy.
In addition, Startup Tours and innovator exchange programs will be initiated to enable Indonesian and Indian startups to explore their respective markets and collaborate in the development of Public Good technology.
