Here are the rules for fasting on Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, and KRL during Ramadan.

JAKARTA - A number of public transportation operators in Jakarta provide flexibility for passengers who carry out fasting to break the fast in the vehicle when the Maghrib time arrives. However, there are restrictions on the type of food to the duration that must be obeyed.

This policy is implemented by PT Transjakarta, PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), to PT KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) during Ramadan.

Transjakarta allows customers to break the fast on the bus when the magrib call to prayer rings, especially for those who are still on the way. Head of the Public Relations and CSR Department of Transjakarta, Ayu Wardhani, said this policy is to make it easier for customers who have not arrived at their destination during the break.

"We want to ensure that customers can continue to carry out their fasting comfortably, including when the time of breaking the fast arrives in the middle of the journey. Of course, we also invite customers to maintain cleanliness and comfort together," said Ayu, quoted Thursday, February 19.

Customers are only allowed to break the fast with drinking water and snacks. Eating and drinking activities are limited to a maximum of 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer.

After that, the rules prohibiting eating and drinking will be back to normal. Transjakarta services during Ramadan will continue to run normally. A total of 14 main corridors operate 24 hours.

A similar policy is applied to MRT Jakarta. Passengers are allowed to break their fast in the ratangga or paid area of the station when the time for Maghrib arrives. Corporate Secretary Division Head of MRT Jakarta Rendy Primartantyo emphasized that this flexibility is still accompanied by restrictions.

"As a form of support for customers or passengers who carry out the Ramadan fasting 1447 H, PT MRT Jakarta implements special policies during the month of Ramadan, especially during the breaking of the fast," said Rendy.

Passengers are only allowed to break the fast with water and dates, and a maximum of 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer if they are still in the train or paid area.

"Service users are not allowed to break their fast with drinks other than water such as tea, coffee, syrup, soda, and others, as well as snacks other than dates," he explained.

After that, passengers are asked to continue their fasting activities in the unpaid concourse area. This policy is valid starting February 19, 2025.

Meanwhile, KCI also allows Commuter Line or KRL users to break the fast on the train. KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary Karina Amanda urged passengers to break the fast as much as possible and not to bring heavy food.

"For breaking the fast on the Commuter Line, users are advised to break the fast with light food and drinks without being excessive, and to avoid food or drinks that smell pungent for the sake of mutual comfort," explained Karina.

Passengers are also asked to maintain cleanliness by not throwing garbage carelessly. Garbage is expected to be brought down and thrown in the garbage cans of the destination station.
