May Inflation 0.32 Percent, BPS: Supported By Fasting And Eid Al-Fitr

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in May inflation was 0.32 percent. Inflation this time was higher than the previous month, which was 0.13 percent. Meanwhile, inflation on a calendar year basis is 0.90 percent and year-on-year inflation is 1.68 percent.

Deputy for Statistics, Distribution and Services at BPS Setianto said that this inflation was still mainly contributed by basic commodities. Of the 90 CPI cities, 78 cities experienced inflation and 12 cities experienced deflation.

The highest inflation occurred in Manokwari at 1.82 percent triggered by the increase in air freight rates. Meanwhile, the lowest inflation occurred in Tambilaan at 0.01 percent.

Setianto said that the cause of inflation in Manokwari was mainly related to air transportation with a share of 0.77 percent, as well as 0.29 percent of spinach, 0.17 percent of skipjack tuna, 0.15 percent of yellowtail fish, 0.14 percent of mumar fish and 0.11 percent of kale. percent.

"So the increase in May was due to fasting and Eid al-Fitr. It was very obvious that there was an increase in prices or inflation in May," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, June 2.

Meanwhile, Setianto said that the highest deflation was recorded in Timika, minus 0.83 percent due to lower prices of kale, cayenne pepper and red chili. The lowest deflation occurred in Palembang minus 0.02 percent in May 2021.

"Commodities that trigger deflation in Timika are kale, cayenne pepper, green cayenne, red chili, white cabbage or cabbage," he explained.
