The Fifth Generation Toyota Yaris Will Appear Futuristic with Many Engine Options

JAKARTA - Japanese automaker Toyota is reportedly preparing a new breakthrough in the electrification compact car segment. Through the fifth generation Yaris, Toyota is said to target a launch in 2027, or at least a year later, as part of strengthening their portfolio of environmentally friendly vehicles.

Citing the Arena EV report, Wednesday, February 18, this latest Yaris is said to come with a fairly unique approach. Instead of completely switching to battery-based electric cars, Toyota chose to continue to provide a variety of driving options. This means that in addition to the pure electric version, consumers can still choose hybrid variants, plug-in hybrids (PHEV), to conventional gasoline engines.

The strategy is a manifestation of Toyota's "multi-energy" approach, which is now being vigorously carried out. Through one main platform, this manufacturer wants to provide flexibility by accommodating various types of energy sources.

This step is considered realistic to answer the needs of the global market which is still diverse in the adoption of electric vehicles. If this plan is realized, the fifth generation Yaris will face strong competitors in its class, such as the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Polo which are also being prepared by the respective manufacturers.

In terms of performance, Toyota targets a range of up to 400 kilometers on a single full charge for its electric variants, a figure that is considered sufficient to support users' daily activities. In terms of appearance, the new Yaris is claimed to be more futuristic.

Toyota is said to adopt a firm design line with a "hammerhead" front fascia, creating a modern impression that is thick with a sci-fi feel. A major transformation also takes place in the interior, where the conventional dashboard will be removed and replaced with a floating touchscreen resembling a tablet.

Even so, Toyota still needs time to perfect all aspects of this vehicle, especially related to the integration of technology and the driving system used. The public also seems to have to be patient before seeing the final form of the fifth generation Yaris on the road.
