So in the purple crying phase, the baby will cry more often and can be very long. It usually starts at age 2, peaks at 8 weeks, and slowly stops on its own by the 12th week.
Don't worry, at this stage the crying baby doesn't turn purple! Then, what is meant by purple crying? The term purple itself is a term that indicates the character of a baby's cry.
P (peak crying): This is the phase when the baby starts crying more often than usual.
U (unpredictable crying): The baby will cry suddenly for no apparent reason.
R (resist soothing): When crying, it's hard to stop.
P (pain-like face): Mother will see the baby's expression as if he is in pain but can't find the cause.
L (long-lasting): The baby's cry can be very long, about 30-40 minutes. If counted all day, the total time to cry could be 5 hours or more.
E (evening): Afternoon and night is the time he cries longer.
Then how to overcome the situation when purple crying occurs? One way that can be done is skin-to-skin contact with the baby. Mother can hug him and give him a sense of comfort. So that he is warmer, he can be covered with a soft baby blanket.
Mothers can also hold the baby while walking around the house or rocking his body. Being close to the baby can tell that his parents are by his side and he will always be safe.
If he cries near bath time, try giving him a warm bath to calm him down and relax. But if it's not time yet and the weather outside is quite cool, you can also carry him and take him outside to enjoy the fresh air.
Do not forget to check the condition of his body, including temperature or maybe there are things that make him uncomfortable. He may indeed cry because of itching, heat, rash, mosquito bites, hunger or cold.
