Purbaya Injects Additional Funds of Rp. 4.63 Trillion for BNPB, Strengthening Disaster Management in Sumatra

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the government had realized additional ready-to-use funds for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) of Rp. 4.63 trillion to strengthen disaster handling in the Sumatra region.

"If the BNPB ceiling for the 2026 fiscal year is IDR 490 billion, it includes ready-to-use funds of IDR 250 billion. However, the government has added ready-to-use funds of IDR 4.63 trillion," said Purbaya in a coordination meeting of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra with the DPR RI, Wednesday, February 18.

Purbaya added that the additional budget had been disbursed since February 6, 2026 to accelerate the response to disasters that occurred in various areas.

Of the total additional funds, he said, around Rp4.35 trillion was allocated for emergency handling in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Meanwhile, around Rp270 billion was used for disaster handling in other regions.

He claimed that the government stated its readiness to increase the budget again if the needs on the ground were still not met.

In addition to through BNPB, Purbaya said the government is preparing another funding scheme through three channels, namely BNPB, the Disaster Task Force, and the acceleration and addition of Transfer to the Region (TKD).

Purbaya added that there were also additional budget proposals from a number of ministries/institutions, including from the Ministry of Public Works (PU) with a multi-year scheme whose value is estimated to reach around Rp. 70 trillion.

It was explained that in the first year, Rp28 trillion was allocated, the following year Rp28 trillion, and the remaining Rp16 trillion.

The proposal includes support for disaster resilience management, operational costs for the task force implementation team, land and irrigation rehabilitation, seed, feed, and livestock assistance, with a total submission of around Rp. 43 trillion.

All of these proposals will first be discussed and coordinated through the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) to avoid overlapping programs.

Purbaya added that after being approved, the proposal will be forwarded to the Disaster Task Force led by the Minister of Home Affairs, before finally being disbursed by the Ministry of Finance in accordance with the provisions.

According to him, the source of funding for these programs is different from the BNPB funds that have been used previously.

"So the source of funding is different from BNPB which has been used now," he said.

For the operational disaster task force, the budget has been proposed by the Minister of Home Affairs to the Minister of Finance and will later be allocated in the DIPA of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs has submitted a proposal for a task force operational budget of Rp. 400 billion with details of course. Based on this proposal, the Ministry of Finance has advised the Ministry of Home Affairs to fund the operational funding of the Disaster Task Force by using the Ministry of Home Affairs DIPA. So for the Disaster Task Force itself there is a cost, so it is separate," he said.
