Body found on Jalan Kontainer Sorong, Police secures 2 teenagers
Sorong - The Sorong Police, South West Papua, are investigating the motive for the alleged murder of a resident whose body was found in the Jalan Kontainer area, Aimas District, Sorong Regency, after securing two suspected perpetrators.
The Sorong Police Chief, AKBP Edwin Parsaoran, said the two suspected perpetrators who were arrested were initials MF (18) and a child who was facing the law (ABH) with the initials SA (17).
"We have arrested the two suspected perpetrators. Currently, investigators are still conducting intensive examinations to delve into the motives and roles of each," said Edwin in Sorong, Wednesday, quoted by Antara.
The case was recorded in the police report number LP/B/73/II/2026/SPKT-1/Polres Sorong/Polda Papua Barat Daya.
He narrated that this incident began when the family lost contact with the victim for about a week.
"The family then received information that the victim was allegedly being abused. Because the victim was not found, the family reported the incident to the Sorong Police," he said.
The victim is known as Umar Kayam, with an address at the Panti Asuhan Jalan Lobak, Sorong Regency. The victim's body was found in a bush area around Jalan Kontainer on Tuesday (17/2/2026) in a condition wrapped in sacks and large backpacks.
The disclosure of this case continued on Monday (16/2/2026) at around 14.00 WIT when the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) team of the Sorong Police raided a boarding house on Jalan Tuturuga, Sorong Regency, which was suspected to be the hiding place of the perpetrators. However, the two were not found at the location.
The police then received information that the suspected perpetrators fled to Meyaup Village, Central Salawati District, Sorong Regency. The team carried out a pursuit and managed to secure the two along with a number of evidence.
During the arrest, the police seized one mobile phone and one motorcycle. Meanwhile, other evidence is still being searched.
"The two suspected perpetrators were taken to the Seget Police Headquarters before being transferred to the Sorong Police Headquarters for further examination," he said.
The victim's body has been evacuated to Sele Be Solu Hospital, Sorong City, for medical examination.
The Police Chief ensured that the legal process would run according to the applicable provisions in a professional and transparent manner.
"We will continue to complete the investigation file and conduct development to fully uncover this incident," he said.
The incident had triggered tension on Tuesday (17/2/2026) evening, when the victim's family along with a number of residents came to the Sorong Police to ask for clarity on handling the case.
