Strait of Hormuz Temporarily Closed, Iranian Revolutionary Guards Hold Military Exercise

JAKARTA - Amid the tension between the United States and Iran, the Iranian military has continued to carry out military operations.

A number of parts of the Strait of Hormuz were closed for several hours on Tuesday local time. This closure was carried out as a "security precaution" measure for the safety of shipping, as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency, reported by Reuters, Tuesday, April 17.

The move was taken in conjunction with the military exercise by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the strategic waterway. Local authorities stressed that the restrictions were temporary and aimed to ensure that shipping activities remained safe during the maneuvers.

The Strait of Hormuz itself is the world's most vital oil export route. This narrow waterway is the main link between the largest oil-producing countries in the Gulf region, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates - with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Any disruption in the region often triggers global attention, given the large volume of world oil that crosses the Strait of Hormuz every day.
