MUI Haramkan Semua Aktivitas LGBT dalam Sejarah Hari Ini, 17 Februari 2016
History today, 10 years ago, February 17, 2016, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) banned all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activities. LGBT activities are considered by MUI as a form of crime because they can spread various kinds of dangerous diseases.
Previously, the lives of those who were part of the LGBT group were increasingly difficult. LGBT people then spoke up so that they were treated fairly by the state. The narrative then opened a new discussion regarding the pros and cons of LGBT.
Many LGBT communities admit that it is difficult to live in Indonesia. They consider the country does not recognize their presence. This condition makes it difficult for them to get rights such as health to freedom of expression.
Protection for them to get a fair trial is often questioned. This condition makes the LGBT community begin to show themselves by voicing the fate of their group since 2015. The government also denied the accusation of differences between the LGBT group in the eyes of the law.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan spoke up. Luhut considers the LGBT group to be equal in the eyes of the law on February 12, 2016. The narrative is because they are also included as Indonesian citizens.
Luhut also asked the Indonesian people to be wise to the presence of the LGBT group. The Minister of Religion (Menag), Lukman Hakim Saifuddin also invited all Indonesians not to be hostile to the LGBT group.
Menag actually invited all institutions to be able to work together in order to find the root of the problem as to why they chose to be LGBT. This condition is considered to be a sure way so that they can be immediately treated.
Efforts can be made with a religious or spiritual approach. However, Lukman considers this desire not as a defense of LGBT people. He emphasized that this step was revealed so that problems related to LGBT would not be trivial and spread everywhere.
"We must not be hostile and hate them as citizens, but that does not mean we justify and allow the LGBT movement to shift the values of religion and the personality of the nation. A number of religious organizations have made statements rejecting LGBT and trying to find solutions in finding a way to rehabilitate themselves," said Lukman as quoted by the lamankompas.com, February 16, 2016.
Efforts to protect LGBT are trumpeted by the government. However, MUI chose a different attitude on February 17, 2016. MUI firmly considers the activities or LGBT groups to be contrary to the constitution and the state.
LGBT is contrary to the first and second principles of Pancasila. The rest of LGBT is contrary to many Indonesian legal products. MUI also firmly prohibits LGBT activities in Indonesia. This condition is because LGBT is also seen as a form of crime.
"This opinion is based on LGBT activities that are prohibited by Islam. LGBT sexual activity can also cause diseases that are dangerous to health and sources of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS," said MUI Chairman Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by the lamankompas.com, February 17, 2016.
