TNI-Polri Secure the Wamena-Kelila Road which was Cut Off Due to Landslide

JAYAPURA - TNI-Polri personnel were deployed to secure the Wamena road, Jayawijaya Regency - Kelila, Central Mamberamo Regency, Papua, which was cut off due to a landslide.

The Central Mamberamo Police Chief AKBP Mukabsi in Jayapura, Tuesday, said the Kelila-Wamena road access was cut off due to a landslide that occurred after heavy rain hit the area on Sunday (15/2) evening).

"Landslides occurred in Onggobalo Village," he said, "so that several roads leading to districts in the Central Mamberamo Regency, such as Eragayam, and Bokondini, were damaged.

Security led by the Kelila Police Chief Aiptu Ridwan Kharie found at least five landslide points which caused the road to be impassable for vehicles.

"We have identified the affected points and coordinated with the local government, and hope that it can be handled immediately so that it does not have an impact on the community," said AKBP Mukabsi.

He said that if the damage on the road section was not immediately addressed, it could have an impact on the potential for an increase in the price of basic necessities due to the distribution of basic materials and transportation obstacles.

The joint TNI-Polri team is ready to assist in the evacuation process of landslide material and opening emergency road access to accelerate the recovery of citizen mobility.

The public is urged to continue to increase vigilance, considering the intensity of the rain is still high and there is a potential for subsequent landslides.

"Hopefully, steps to restore infrastructure will be taken immediately, so that ensuring the distribution of logistics to the community continues to run smoothly," said Central Mamberamo Police Chief AKBP Mukabsi.
