Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono Emphasizes Indonesia's Involvement in the Peace Council Guided by the UN Charter

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's involvement in the Peace Council (BoP) was guided by the UN Charter, the vision of State Solutions to the UN Security Council Resolution.

He conveyed this during a bilateral meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, at the UN Headquarters, New York, United States (16/2), to discuss developments in the Palestinian situation and efforts to promote a just and sustainable peace.

Opening the meeting, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation for the leadership of the UN Secretary-General in the midst of increasingly complex global dynamics, while reaffirming Indonesia's strong commitment to the UN and multilateralism.

Foreign Minister Sugiono also conveyed his plan to attend the UN Security Council meeting on February 18, 2026 which will discuss peace efforts in the Middle East, especially the growing challenges in Palestine.

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the plan for the participation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in the Board of Peace meeting in Washington D.C. on February 19, 2026, along with a number of world leaders.

"Our position is clear: Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace is fully guided by the UN Charter, the vision of the Two-State Solution, and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025)," said the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, launching the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday (17/2).

Furthermore, he emphasized, Indonesia's participation is a manifestation of its commitment to promoting a just and lasting peace, as well as ensuring that the implementation mechanism of the Board of Peace is synergistic and strengthens the efforts being made by the United Nations.

On this occasion, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Indonesia's belief in the importance of the multilateral system as a main pillar in maintaining peace and upholding international law.

"Indonesia is committed to using various existing multilateral platforms and mechanisms to encourage a just and sustainable solution for the Palestinian people's struggle," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Responding to this, the UN Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in New York and the consistency of Indonesia's commitment to supporting the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.

The UN Secretary-General also expressed his concern about the situation in the West Bank, which is in clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions. He considered it important for Muslim countries, including Indonesia as the largest Muslim-populated country in the world, to play a constructive role in the Board of Peace.

Both parties also used this meeting to exchange views on the development of global security and development, including various strategic issues in the region. The UN Secretary-General considers Indonesia as a key partner in strengthening the multilateral system.
