Spanish League standings: Real Madrid pushes Barcelona from the top
JAKARTA - Real Madrid dethroned Barcelona from the top of the 2025/2026 Spanish League 24th week standings after massacring Real Socieded 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Sunday morning WIB.
Gonzalo Garcia (5'), as reported by Antara, brought Madrid to the lead first after he took advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold's measured pass.
Socieded got a penalty and Mikel Oyarzabal who was appointed as the executioner successfully broke the host's goal in the 21st minute.
Unfortunately, the 1-1 draw only lasted four minutes, after Vinicius successfully executed a penalty in the 25th minute. Federico Valverde widened El Real's lead in the 31st minute, before Alvaro Arbeloa's team's victory was closed by a second penalty from Vinicius in the 48th minute.
This victory makes Madrid top the standings for a while with 60 points, leading by two points over Barcelona who just played the 24th week at home to Girona at Montilivi Stadium on Tuesday (17/2) at 03.00 WIB.
The third and fourth ranked teams are still occupied by Villarreal and Atletico Madrid with 45 points after both teams suffered defeats in the 24th week.
Villarreal was beaten by host Getafe 1-2, while Atletico was defeated by host Rayo Vallecano with a landslide score of 3-0.
The defeat of Villarreal and Atletico was well utilized by Real Betis who occupy fifth place, after they brought home three points with a score of 2-1 from home to Mallorca.
This additional three points puts Betis just four points behind Villarreal and Atletico.
Barcelona have the chance to move back ahead of Madrid into second place if they beat Girona on Tuesday morning.
