Duwet Village Road Becomes a Wild Racing Arena, Situbondo Police Transport Dozens of Motorcycles

SITUBONDO - The Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the Situbondo Police has confiscated dozens of motorbikes suspected of being used in illegal racing and disturbing the community in the Situbondo Regency, East Java.

Head of the Situbondo Police Traffic Unit, AKP Nanang Hendra Irawan, said the action was taken during a patrol on Jalan Raya Desa Duwet, Panarukan District, which has often been used as a location for illegal racing.

In addition to the location, officers also secured a number of motorbikes at the four-way red light of Jalan Argopuro. All vehicles that were caught were then secured for processing into fines.

"All vehicles were secured to be given a firm sanction in the form of a fine to their owners," Nanang said in Situbondo, Antara, Monday, February 16.

Even though he took legal action, Nanang ensured that personnel in the field continued to prioritize a humanistic approach. Officers provide direct education to teenagers who are caught in patrol related to the dangers of illegal racing.

According to him, the action in the form of a fine is expected to have a deterrent effect and serve as a means of education that illegal racing is high risk, not only for perpetrators, but also for other road users.

He added that the use of brong exhaust was also a concern because it caused noise that disturbed the comfort of the community, especially at night.

The regulation of illegal racing, said Nanang, was a response to the many complaints from residents who felt uneasy, as well as an effort to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the Situbondo area.

"Previously we received many complaints from the public regarding illegal racing on Jalan Desa Duwet. This action was taken to maintain safety and ensure that the highway is not used for activities that are dangerous," said Nanang.

In the future, the Situbondo Police Standby Platoon will continue to intensify routine patrols to regulate illegal racing and the use of exhaust that does not comply with regulations.
