West Java Pickup Car Thief Gang Arrested in Garut, Spotted Through CCTV Footage
Garut - The Sancang team of the Garut Police has arrested two perpetrators specializing in the theft of four-wheeled vehicles of the pickup type, which have been operating in a number of areas in West Java (Jabar).
"This case is the result of the development of a number of police reports recorded from August 2025 to January 2026," said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Garut Police, AKP Joko Prihatin in Garut, Sunday, quoted by Antara.
He said that the Garut Police had been conducting an investigation to uncover the case.
Garut Police finally managed to arrest a group of perpetrators of a pickup truck theft crime that had been carried out in several areas in West Java Province.
He said that the perpetrators who were arrested by the Sancang Team were initials DD (48) and Y (52) residents of Garut, S (47) residents of Karawang, and MN (41) residents of Lamongan, Central Java.
They, he continued, were arrested in different places, namely in the Padalarang-Cileunyi Toll Road in Cimahi area, and in Karangpawitan, Garut on January 27, 2026, as a result of the development of arresting other perpetrators in the Karawang toll road on January 28, 2026.
"They have different roles, namely executors, mapping the target location, and changing the identity of stolen vehicles," he said.
He said that the perpetrator in the action was looking for a pickup truck that the owner parked in an arbitrary place and the perpetrator damaged the ignition key using a special tool.
The police, he said, managed to detect the presence of the car and the perpetrator based on the screening of CCTV footage in a number of places, and tracking the perpetrator's network.
In addition to arresting the perpetrator, the police also seized evidence of the theft of one pickup truck, a GPS vehicle signal detection device, vehicle modification equipment, a drill, spray paint, a fake vehicle number plate, and so on.
"Investigators are still developing to uncover the possibility of other networks and tracing additional evidence," he said.
