Jakarta, West Java, to Papua Potentially Rained Very Heavy Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts heavy to very heavy rain that has the potential to hit a number of regions in Indonesia on Monday, February 16.

BMKG Bintari's Praktirawan, in a weather forecast broadcast by Antara Jakarta Monday morning, said that heavy to very heavy rain was likely to occur in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, and Banten.

"Heavy and very heavy rain also has the potential to hit Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, North Sulawesi, Papua, and Papua Mountains," he said.

BMKG also reminded the public to increase vigilance against the potential for heavy to very heavy rain in a number of regions of Indonesia in the near future.

Furthermore, Bintari said that BMKG predicted that moderate to heavy rain could also occur in a number of other areas marked in the alert category.

The regions that fall into this category include those in the western part of Indonesia. BMKG estimates the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Padang, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Yogyakarta, and Banjarmasin.

"Meanwhile, moderate intensity rain is potentially occurring in Medan, Bengkulu, Serang, Jakarta, and Bandung," he said.

Meanwhile, light rain is predicted to hit Banda Aceh, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangkaraya.

Then for the eastern part of Indonesia, moderate rain is predicted to occur in Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, and Jayawijaya. Then light rain is likely to occur in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Ambon, most of Sulawesi, and most of Papua.

BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather that may be accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds, as well as the subsequent impacts such as flooding, flooding, and falling trees.
