Arsenal immediately took the initiative to attack and were able to take the lead in the 11th minute after a breakthrough pass from Eberechi Eze was converted into a goal by Noni Madueke so that the score became 1-0.

Eze again became the actor in the creation of the second goal for Arsenal after his breakthrough pass was greeted by Gabriel Martinelli's shot that broke into the Wigan goal so that the score changed to 2-0 in the 19th minute.
