Saudi Foreign Minister Urges Ceasefire for Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Resolution
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Saturday (14/2) said that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip must be a path to a Palestinian state of independence within the framework of two states.
Farhan reiterated Saudi Arabia's support for initiatives aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying the kingdom was acting out of a need to achieve peace at the Munich Security Conference.
He stressed that the Gaza Peace Council, which was formed based on the second Gaza ceasefire, along with its 20-point framework, must first ensure the end of hostilities and then help advance the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
According to him, the ceasefire must be used to restore stability, rebuild and take real steps towards a Palestinian state - the only way to lasting regional peace.
Meanwhile, regarding Syria, Farhan said his country took a constructive approach to minority and ethnic groups amid a difficult transition process after years of civil war.
He added that reconstruction will ultimately be led by the Syrian people, and regional and international actors will play a supporting role.
Bin Farhan also said that agreements with the SDF terrorist group are being developed in a way that respects Kurdish rights, and expressed confidence that the government's continued progress will bring wider benefits.
