Prabowo Subianto Discusses Indonesia-US Economic Negotiation Strategy in Hambalang
President Prabowo Subianto summoned a number of ministers in the field of economy to his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, Sunday (15/2) afternoon, to discuss the direction of Indonesia's strategy in facing economic negotiations with the United States.
"In the meeting, the President emphasized two important things," said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his statement in Jakarta.
First is to ensure that every position taken by Indonesia in economic negotiations with any country provides the best benefits for national interests.
The immediate focus, said Teddy, is preparing for economic negotiations with the United States that will soon roll out in the near future.
"Especially, in the near future with the United States is the best and most profitable for Indonesia," he said.
According to Teddy, the President wants every negotiation process to be able to encourage the increase in domestic industry productivity while strengthening Indonesia's position in the global industrial supply chain.
The second thing, said Teddy, the economic cooperation that is established is not only short-term, but also strengthens the foundation of the national industry.
He added that the President emphasized that every economic policy taken by the government must immediately produce concrete benefits for Indonesia.
The directive serves as a guide for ministers to formulate strategic steps that are fast, measurable, and directly impact national economic growth.
Present at the meeting, among others, were Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit the United States on February 19, 2026 to sign a reciprocal trade agreement (agreement on reciprocal trade/ART) with President Donald Trump, as well as attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the details of the tariff agreement were still awaiting finalization, but Indonesia's export tariffs to the US had dropped from 32 percent to 19 percent, and the government asked the public to wait until the entire process was completed.
