Pramono Anung asks the Betawi People's Assembly to arrange the Betawi Cultural Education Curriculum for School Students

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked the Betawi People's Assembly to help develop the Betawi culture subject curriculum for schools in Jakarta. This was conveyed by Pramono at the Betawi People's Akbar Gathering.

Pramono will instruct the DKI Jakarta Education Office to begin partnering with the Betawi customary institution in drafting the local content (mulok) curriculum.

"I will ask the Education Office to prepare it, and later of course together with the Betawi people to prepare so that people know about what is in Betawi, in Jakarta," said Pramono at the MH Thamrin Museum, Senen, Central Jakarta, Sunday, February 15.

As the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono admitted that he did not know many vocabulary in the Betawi language. He did not want the younger generation in Jakarta also did not have knowledge of Betawi culture as the original tribe in the capital. So, according to him, learning Betawi culture needs to be sharpened in the education curriculum.

"Actually it's not fair if we in Jakarta don't have local Betawi content education. So learning local cultures, including of course Betawi, is important in the education of our students," said Pramono.

Not only that, Pramono also invited all parties to maintain the efforts to preserve Betawi culture, not limited to the maintenance of buildings or cultural heritage, but also other elements. Then, Pramono wants Betawi cultural centers to continue to be developed.

"All activities of the regional government, the central government in Jakarta today, all of them must use the art centers in Jakarta and they must have activities every day," said Pramono.

Pramono emphasized his commitment to strengthening the Betawi identity as a characteristic of Jakarta. He wants Betawi culture to become a strong identity for the city, as Jakarta moves towards a global city.

Pramono hopes that there will be cooperation between the DKI Provincial Government and the Betawi People's Assembly, which will be led by former DKI Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo (Foke) to further advance Betawi culture, including its cultural heritage, which is considered not to be optimally managed.

"Betawi cultural heritage is very much, but in my opinion it has not been managed well. Betawi cultural heritage, let's find it again, the small ones are also okay, we take care of it again. Don't just the big ones like this museum, I think," said Pramono.

The provincial government, he said, will facilitate this effort through the Culture Service. He also asked the DKI Regional Secretary to ensure that Betawi culture is officially recorded so that it can be documented and can become a reference for generations.

In addition to preservation, he also encourages the development of Betawi art centers, which are now beginning to grow and are involved in various activities of the central government and the DKI Provincial Government. In the economic sector, Pramono emphasized the importance of empowering local-based creative economy and MSMEs.

"Now Betawi food is already very much. But one of the weaknesses is that it has not been well documented. Now this is the era of gastronomy," he added.

Continuing, the Chairman of the Betawi People's Council, Fauzi Bowo (Foke), admitted that his party had a concept for drafting a Betawi cultural learning curriculum which would later be perfected together with the DKI Jakarta Education Office.

"The point is that the local load has been thought about by the Betawi Cultural Institution and there is a concept. Working together with the Education Office," said Foke.

"Later with the encouragement of the Governor, we will speed up, we will accelerate so that it becomes part of the education curriculum in elementary and secondary schools in Jakarta," continued the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.
