Chicken and Chili Prices in Jakarta Skyrocket Ahead of Chinese New Year and Ramadan, Government Evaluates
JAKARTA - Approaching the 2577 Chinese New Year and Ramadan 1447 Hijriyah, the Central Jakarta City Government continues to review a number of traditional and modern markets in the Central Jakarta area.
The Mayor of Central Jakarta Arifin said that checks were carried out on the prices of onions, chilies, eggs, chicken meat, beef, and rice.
"The price of eggs has increased by Rp. 1,000 to Rp. 2,000," said Arifin, Sunday, February 15, 2026.
For the price of onions, there was also an increase of Rp. 5,000. The highest increase was the price of cayenne pepper up to Rp. 20,000.
"Chicken has jumped a little, which was originally Rp. 35,000 per kilogram, now it has become Rp. 45,000," he said.
According to Arifin, the increase in prices was caused by extreme weather in some places.
However, Arifin said that the availability of food, especially in the Central Jakarta area, was still safe.
He hopes that rising prices can be controlled, so that people can buy their needs at affordable prices.
"This price increase, we will try to evaluate from which side it increased," he said.
