20 Years Behind, DPRD Urges Revision of Air Pollution Control Regulation
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Wibi Andrino supports the plan to revise Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2005 concerning Air Pollution Control.
According to him, the update of the rules is urgent to answer the increasingly complex Jakarta air quality issues.
The regulation, which has been in force since 2005, has not been revised for more than two decades.
Meanwhile, the challenge of air pollution in the capital continues to grow, both in terms of emission sources and its impact on public health.
Wibi assessed that the old regulation was no longer adequate to respond to the current conditions, because the regulation was outdated.
"Involving other elements. Including the Health Office. The issue of air touches many aspects," said Wibi in his statement, Sunday, February 15.
He explained that the discussion of the revision of the Regional Regulation would not only be carried out by one commission in the DPRD.
Other elements in the environment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will also be involved so that the resulting policies are more comprehensive.
According to him, the issue of air pollution is not only related to the environment, but also has a direct impact on the health of residents.
Therefore, a cross-sectoral approach is considered important so that the arrangements are not partial.
Wibi ensured that the discussion of the revision was carried out in detail and measured so that its implementation could be carried out gradually and realistically.
"Item by item, to ensure that the policy stages are measured," said Wibi.
With the condition of Jakarta's air quality often in the spotlight, this revision of the Regulation is expected to present a regulatory framework that is more adaptive to the development of the times, as well as strengthening efforts to control air pollution in the capital.
