Apple Vision Pro's YouTube app finally arrives, with 3D video support
JAKARTA - The owner of the Apple Vision Pro has just got a new way to watch YouTube. The YouTube app is finally available for the Apple Vision Pro, years after Google confirmed that the app was on the "roadmap".
Until now, Apple Vision Pro owners have been forced to watch YouTube through the Safari web browser or use third-party apps. Now, they can download the official YouTube app for free from the headset's App Store.
Google seems intent on ensuring that its website will be the only way to watch YouTube in the first place. The company had Juno, a third-party YouTube player, kicked out of the App Store at the end of 2024.
Anyone who was worried Google would release a very simple (barebones) YouTube app doesn't need to feel it. The App Store page for this new app confirms that viewers can watch everything YouTube has to offer - most importantly including 360 3D and VR180 videos.
The addition of support for VR180 content is worth noting and means Apple Vision Pro owners can enjoy immersive content more easily.
Normal 2D video as well as YouTube Shorts are also present. Even better, owners of the newer Apple Vision Pro M5 can enjoy 8K video, which offers increased resolution for cleaner, sharper images.
Other key YouTube features such as subscriptions, playlists, and viewing history information are all available. Viewers will also be able to read comments and browse video descriptions in a floating box above the video.
Google has said since February 2024 that it intends to bring the YouTube app to Apple's spatial computer. But this new release comes as a surprise - and a pleasant one.
Our two Apple Vision Pro experts, fan Wesley Hilliard and skeptic Mike Wuerthele, are reviewing the app right now.
