Apriyani and Lanny's reason for participating in the Mixed Doubles at the 2026 Ruichang China Masters 2
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has provided an explanation regarding the decision to reduce Apriyani Rahayu and Lanny Tria Mayasari to play in the mixed doubles event at the 2026 Ruichang China Masters next month.
To the PBSI Coaching and Achievement Division, Eng Hian, said that the decision was made by his party as part of a program to explore the potential of players for the future.
"By playing in pairs, we can see other potential that may come out of these athletes," said Eng Hian in an official statement from the national badminton parent.
In the Super 100 level competition, Apri will pair up with Taufik Aderya and Lanny will pair up with Daniel Edgar Marvino. Both pairs will start their journey from the qualifying round.
In addition to appearing in the mixed doubles, Apri/Lanny will also be together in the women's doubles sector. They have previously often played together in that number even though they have been rotated several times before being reunited again this year.
Eng Hian emphasized that in addition to the above objectives, the decision they made also had the intention that Daniel and Taufik could gain knowledge and experience from Apri and Lanny who were more senior and richer in flying hours.
"The development of playing ability in two sectors will also have a positive impact on them," he said.
In addition, PBSI also decided to pair Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata with Verrell Yustin Mulia. This trial will be carried out while waiting for Marwan Faza to recover from the injury problem.
Aisyah and Verrell will be dropped in the Sri Lanka International Serie and International Challenge in March. Verrell, who currently does not have a partner in the men's doubles, will temporarily focus on training in mixed doubles.
