DPR Member: People's School in Cirebon City Needs Improvement
CIREBON - Member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Selly Andriany Gantina, said that the facilities of the People's School in Cirebon City, West Java, still need improvement to meet the standards of safety and comfort for students.
Selly in his statement in Cirebon, Saturday, said that a number of findings in the field showed that the condition of the facilities was not optimal and not fully in line with the vision of the education program announced by the central government.
He assessed that the appropriateness of the rules and implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at the school still needed to be strengthened so that services to students ran optimally.
"There are several notes that should be improved and completed," he said.
According to him, boarding schools should be supported by adequate facilities to support the learning and living activities of students. However, from the results of the review, he saw that the utilization and completeness of the facilities had not been maximized, especially in the dormitory facilities.
Selly admitted that when he inspected the student room, a number of bunk beds were found in a less than decent condition, with the iron frame parts showing dents and being at risk to safety.
"When I checked the room, I saw the condition of the bed with a dent. I was worried that the bed was not sturdy enough to fall on the child below," he said.
In addition, he also highlighted the limitations of the bathroom facilities available for dormitory residents, because there are only three facilities that are used together, which causes long queues every day.
"Teachers there told me that children had to queue to take a bath since 3 a.m.," he said.
All findings, he said, will be presented in a Public Hearing (RDPU) with the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos).
"We are committed to overseeing the improvement of the People's School facilities in Cirebon so that the quality of services for the community is better," he said.
