DPR Members: National Roadmap for Rare Earth Metals to Strengthen the Industry

Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dewi Yustisiana, encourages the preparation of a roadmap or national roadmap for rare earth metals (LTJ) that is integrated to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global supply chain of critical minerals.

According to him, the increasing world demand for high-tech mineral-based products must be responded to through clear, targeted, and data-based policies.

"Indonesia has great opportunities in the development of rare earth metals, but an integrated national roadmap is needed so that its management does not run partially and is able to provide optimal added value for the national industry," Dewi said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

He assessed that the management of LTJ needs to be supported by accurate national inventories as well as strengthening research and cross-sector coordination. This step is considered important so that Indonesia is able to build an ecosystem of high-value-added industries in the country.

He also emphasized that the LTJ roadmap would provide certainty for the direction of mineral processing as well as increase investor confidence in the development of strategic national industries. Policy clarity is considered a key factor in encouraging quality investment and strengthening national technological capacity.

On the other hand, Dewi reminded that the development of LTJ must still prioritize the principles of environmental sustainability and good governance.

The strengthening of strategic mineral industries, he said, must be in line with the protection of ecosystems and sustainable economic benefits for the community.
