LeBron James Carved a Record as the Oldest NBA Basketball to Record a Triple-Double
JAKARTA - Veteran basketball LeBron James managed to record himself as the oldest player in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) who managed to score a triple-double when his team Los Angeles Lakers beat the Dallas Mavericks.
The LA Lakers closed the game at home with a score of 124-104 on Friday, February 13, 2026 Indonesian time or Thursday local time. This victory ended the Lakers' two-game losing streak and changed their win-loss record to 33-21 ahead of the All Star break.
"I appreciate moments like this in my career more, understanding where I am. I'm at the end of my journey. So, I really enjoy this moment," said LeBron James as reported by ESPN.
James recorded 28 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, making him the oldest player in NBA history to record a triple-double. The record he carved at the age of 41 years 44 days, he surpassed the record of Karl Malone (40 years 127 days).
The appearance against the Mavericks came two days after James missed a game against the San Antonio Spurs due to arthritis in his left foot. It was the 18th time he had missed a LA Lakers game this season.
The absence against Spurs made James ineligible for the end-of-season award and ended his All-NBA record of 21 consecutive seasons. He did not reach the threshold of 65 games in the regulations.
James, who is in the final year of his contract with the Lakers, has repeatedly stated that he has not decided whether to continue his career or not. He emphasized that even if he retires, it does not mean that his performance has declined.
"My game will not decline. It's just a matter of my body. There are so many other factors that affect how long I will play. I think my game will never decline if I decide to continue playing," he said.
The record set when meeting the Mavericks was James' first triple-double this season and the 123rd in his career. The number puts him in fifth place on the all-time list of the most prestigious basketball league.
