AHY Reveals the Reason Maung Has Not Been a Minister's Official Car

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto's instruction for ministers to use Pindad Maung as a service vehicle until now has not been realized in the field. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), revealed the reason.

He said that currently, the focus of production is still directed towards defense needs. Therefore, it does not seem that the Maung car will be used by Prabowo's cabinet.

"At that time we were given such news (Pindad Maung was used as a minister's official car). But, we are focusing on (at this time) the needs of the Ministry of Defense (Ministry of Defense) first," said AHY at the IIMS 2026 arena, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Friday, February 13.

The explanation is in line with the size of the order from the Ministry of Defense. Since the end of 2024, the Ministry of Defense is known to have ordered at least 4,600 Maung units.

With a production capacity that is not too large, Pindad needs time to complete the order in that amount. Beyond that, Pindad has a fairly diverse Maung line, covering variants for military and civilian interests.

Some of the models that have been introduced include Maung MV3 Komando and Jelajah, Maung Tangguh, Maung MV3 Irup, Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer, to the latest variant, the MV3 Garuda Limousine.

The MV3 Garuda Limousine was developed specifically as a presidential vehicle. Using the Maung MV3 base, this model looks more luxurious and is equipped with body and bulletproof glass protection to support the president's security aspects. At the 2026 IIMS, Pindad also displayed the MV1 and MV2 models to the public.

As is known, President Prabowo openly expressed his desire for the Maung Pindad to become the official service car for ministers in his government. The statement was made during the plenary cabinet session which marked the first year of his administration at the State Palace, Jakarta, October 20, 2025

"And soon all of you have to wear Maung, I don't want to know. Good cars are used only on holidays. When I don't call you, you can use that car," said Prabowo.

Prabowo also emphasized the importance of pride in national products. He himself has used Maung since being inaugurated as president last year, as a form of support for the domestic automotive industry.
