PT PAL Emphasizes Consolidation of State-Owned Enterprises Shipyards Does Not Impact Layoffs

SURABAYA - The plan to consolidate the state-owned shipyard, which is being discussed with the Anagata Nusantara Power Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), was emphasized by PT PAL Indonesia as not being a labor reduction agenda.

PT PAL Indonesia President Director Kaharuddin Djenod stated that this strategic step would actually be directed to strengthen and nourish the national shipping industry, including strengthening human resources (HR) competencies.

"This consolidation is expected to open up a wider space for productivity, clarify the division of roles between shipyards, and create continuity of work in the long term," he said in Surabaya, East Java, Saturday, February 14, launching ANTARA.

Kaharuddin said PT PAL was preparing to form a strong and capable team to build the national maritime industry so that consolidation was not merely combining entities but uniting competencies and strengthening organizations.

Therefore, consolidation is focused on strengthening the industrial structure, improving financial performance, and increasing the competitiveness of national shipyards so that they are able to meet the increasing domestic ship needs.

He emphasized that the human resources arrangement that is being discussed is also carried out through a comprehensive assessment mechanism based on competence and industry needs.

This step aims to ensure that every shipyard personnel can be placed according to their capacity and obtain better development space in an integrated industrial structure.

This consolidation, he said, is expected to open up wider productivity space, clarify the division of roles between the parties, and create continuity of work in the long term.

Moreover, he continued, if the domestic shipyard moves, the supply chain will come to life, the steel industry will grow, components will be produced domestically, and jobs will be created.

"This is the multiplier effect that will drive economic growth while strengthening the nation's independence," said Kaharuddin.
