Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga: Structural Reform is the Key to Achieving 8 Percent Economic Growth

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that to achieve the economic growth target of 8 percent as expected by President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia needs to carry out structural reforms sustainably.

"To achieve the growth target expected by the President, which is the target of 8 percent growth, we need to carry out structural reforms continuously," he said in the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026, Friday, February 13.

In addition, he likened the Indonesian economy to an airplane that had almost taken off in 1998, but was disrupted by international conditions, and currently, the government is targeting Indonesia to be able to really take off in the next two years.

"Where, like an airplane, we once wanted to take off in 1998 but there were international disruptions. Well, now we will take off in the next two years," he said.

According to him, to realize this, it is necessary to strengthen the production machine, which includes government spending, business investment, and the role of Danantara as a driving force that must run harmoniously.

"Then the policy is also predictable, and the financial system, both banks and the financial market, is deeper," he added.

In terms of demand, he said growth was also driven by household spending and exports.

According to him, with the expansion of export access to various countries, especially in the textile sector, the potential for increased is considered very large and if all market opportunities can be utilized, in the next 10 years the export of the textile sector is estimated to increase up to 10 times, so that it can create more jobs.

Airlangga conveyed that with a strong foundation in the form of increased investment, bureaucratic simplification, and consistent law enforcement.

He added that the Government is optimistic that the Indonesian economy can really achieve takeoff momentum and realize sustainable growth.
