Ahead of Chinese New Year 2026, the DKI Provincial Government Deploys Officers to Clean Temples and Vihars in Five Regions
JAKARTA - Welcoming the Chinese New Year 2026 on Tuesday, February 17, the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service held a volunteer activity to clean the temples, monasteries, and surrounding areas in various areas of the capital.
This activity involves sanitation personnel from all Environmental Service Sub-Divisions in five Jakarta Administrative Cities. Officers from the Waste Management Unit of the Water Agency (UPS BA) to the District Level Environmental Implementation Unit were also deployed.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service, Asep Kuswanto, said this volunteer work was not just a routine of cleanliness ahead of a religious holiday.
"We want to ensure that all temples, viharas, and the surrounding environment are ready to be used by the people to celebrate Chinese New Year with dignity and comfort. More than that, this is an opportunity to strengthen the value of mutual cooperation and tolerance between religious communities in Jakarta," said Asep in his statement, Friday, February 13.
The volunteer work began on Wednesday, February 11. The cleaning includes the inside and outside of the house of worship, ranging from the yard, water channels, to other supporting facilities.
DLH also handles electronic waste (e-waste) and bulky waste. This step is taken so that waste management does not pollute the environment around the house of worship.
According to Asep, the involvement of residents around is an important factor to keep cleanliness maintained, not only during celebrations.
"We hope that the atmosphere of Chinese New Year this year will feel warmer, cleaner, and full of togetherness. Hopefully, this activity will further increase collective awareness to care for the environment, not only during celebrations, but every day," he said.
