The Mystery of Kurt Cobain's Death Reaches Again, the Police Refuses to Open a New Investigation

JAKARTA - Police in Seattle, USA, have given an official response to the latest report claiming that Kurt Cobain may have been the victim of murder and not ended his own life.

Despite pressure from an independent team of forensic scientists who presented new evidence, local law enforcement authorities said they remained firm on the results of the initial investigation conducted more than three decades ago.

Kurt Cobain was found dead at his residence in 1994 at the age of 27. At that time, the medical team from the King County Medical Examiner concluded that the cause of death of the grunge icon was suicide due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

However, a recent report from a team of private sector forensic experts working with independent researcher Michelle Wilkins and specialist Brian Burnett, attempts to undermine this narrative through a review of physical evidence that is claimed to be contradictory to the results of the official autopsy.

Launching a report from the Daily Mail, the research team spent three days thoroughly examining the material at the crime scene. They claim to have reviewed the autopsy documents "exhaustively" and poured the findings into a scientific paper that has been reviewed for publication in the International Journal of Forensic Science.

Brian Burnett, a specialist in death investigations involving drug overdoses and firearms trauma, unequivocally stated his belief that there were indications of a crime in the case.

"This is murder. We have to do something about this," Burnett said.

The team's report suspected the involvement of one or more people who forced Cobain to take a high dose of heroin before finally pulling the trigger.

Some of the inconsistencies highlighted include organ damage that was considered unusual in a shotgun-related death, the odd position of the bullet casing, to Cobain's hand condition which was called "too clean" for someone who had just fired a shot.

In addition, they also highlighted the existence of two different handwriting styles in the last letter left by the musician.

In response to the claim, a spokesperson for the King County Medical Examiner's Office said they stood by their initial decision, while confirming that all autopsy procedures were carried out according to the applicable operational standards with local law enforcement to determine the status of death as suicide.

"King County Medical Examiner has been working with local law enforcement, conducted a full autopsy, and followed all of its procedures in determining the manner of death as suicide. We have not seen anything to date that warrants reopening this case or a change to our previous determination of death," the statement read.

In line with the medical team, the Seattle Police Department through a statement quoted from Loudwire confirmed that their detectives had concluded the cause of death a long time ago.

"Our detectives concluded that he died by suicide and this continues to be the position held by this department," the police said.

On the other hand, Michelle Wilkins urged authorities not to turn a blind eye to the scientific evidence they submitted. He stated that the authorities were even reluctant to simply review the data they had.
