Prabowo alludes to the police and the TNI as targets of criticism: the greatest generals are maki-makki
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the pressure and criticism that often directed at law enforcement and military personnel as a consequence of their duty to maintain the country.
The Head of State said that the police were now the target of much public criticism, similar to the experience previously experienced by the TNI.
"I know brothers, the police are often the target (of criticism, ed). That's the risk. The TNI was also a target, yes. Our generals are the greatest, the best, yes, they are scolded, accused of being war criminals, accused of violating human rights," he said in a speech reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 13.
However, the President emphasized his belief that the TNI had never targeted civilian facilities such as hospitals, orphanages, schools, and places of worship as targets.
"It feels like the TNI has never bombed a hospital during the history of the TNI. It feels like the TNI has never bombed an orphanage. It feels like the TNI has never bombed a school, never bombed a church or mosque," he said.
President Prabowo also alluded to the attitude of a number of Western countries which he considered often taught human rights standards to other countries, but were not consistent with their own country's attitude.
"Western countries who teach us about human rights, I don't want to comment much anymore. You know what I mean. So, a lot if you used to say that we are learning, we are not learning now," he said.
He asked the police to remain firm in facing criticism as part of the risks of the profession. The President emphasized that the most important thing is good intentions and sacrifices for the nation and state.
"So, we have to be tough. What is clear, we prove it to the people. Today, I have to say that I am proud and satisfied with the achievements. brothers," he said.
If there are individuals who commit violations in a large institution with hundreds of thousands of personnel, the President emphasized that action must be directed at the guilty individual, not the institution as a whole.
"I liken it to a school, there are students who are jerks, there are those who are fighting, there are those who are rude, not the headmaster who is removed. That's wrong, it's reversed. It's not the school that is closed," he said.
President Prabowo said that being a leader means being ready to accept pressure, criticism, and attacks, including those coming through social media, which he said were often enlivened by buzzer activities.
