JAKARTA - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) involved the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) troops to clean up garbage along the main road in the IKN area from kilometer 38 to the border gate of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan (Kaltim) Province.
From the garbage cleaning action carried out by Kopassus troops together with OIKN, about 3.5 tons of garbage were collected.
"The action to clean up the garbage is carried out as part of efforts to control environmental pollution in the IKN area," said Director of Environment and Disaster Management of OIKN, Lazuardi Nasution, Friday, quoted by Antara.
The action to clean up the garbage also involved the Kutai Kartanegara Social Forestry Office and regional officials from the West Samboja District and Sungai Merdeka Village.
The action to clean up the garbage was to build public awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness, and also as an implementation of the integrated waste management program in accordance with the direct instructions of President Prabowo Subianto.
The waste cleaning activity is part of the series of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2026, explained Lazuardi Nasution, and supports the Indonesian ASRI Movement (Safe, Healthy, Resik, Beautiful) program.
Previously, the activity provided socialization to sort out gold-saving waste, as well as carrying out waste cleaning actions followed by at least 300 volunteers at a number of natural tourist sites in the IKN, including Mount Parung, Tembinus Waterfall, and Batu Dinding and collected about 885 kilograms of waste.
Cross-agency collaboration, said representative of the Group-4 Kopassus Captain Lefitar, is part of a joint effort to maintain cleanliness and sustainability of the environment in the IKN area.
"Kopassus is ready to support government programs, especially in activities related to the environment," he added.
"Kopassus is always ready to help government programs to strengthen sustainable environmental management, as well as to increase public awareness of maintaining the cleanliness of the IKN area," said Lefitar.
