Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide in Jatigede, North Ring Road Cannot Be Passed

SUMEDANG - Heavy rain caused a landslide on the North Ring Road Jatigede, Cinangsi Village area, Cisitu District, Sumedang Regency, West Java, Thursday, February 12 afternoon.

Soil and rock material from the cliff on the side of the road collapsed, almost closing the entire road. Access for vehicles for residents and tourists to the Jatigede area was also temporarily closed because the conditions were still dangerous.

Joint officers from BPBD Sumedang, Tagana, TNI, and Polri immediately arrived at the location to carry out initial handling and check the stability of the cliff. The ring road which was inaugurated last year has been equipped with a boundary line to prevent motorists from passing.

The Head of the BPBD Sumedang, Bambang Riyanto, explained that the landslide occurred due to high-intensity rain that hit the Jatigede area since the afternoon. The landslide hit the retaining wall (TPT) with a length of about 50 meters and a height of 15 meters.

"Yes, it is still in the assessment stage. Officers are already at the location," said Bambang.

The results of coordination with related parties decided to close the road completely temporarily. Further handling will be carried out when the weather permits, with the help of heavy equipment.

"The road was closed completely for a while. Heavy equipment will be lowered after readiness from another location," he added.

BPBD urges the public to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of officers, especially when passing through landslide-prone areas in the midst of extreme weather.
