KRI Canopus-936 Research Ship Officially Strengthens the Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Ambassador: A New Era of Indonesian Maritime Data Independence
JAKARTA - The joining of the KRI Canopus-936 Research Vessel in the ranks of the TNI AL's ships, is a new chapter for the independence of Indonesian marine data, the fruit of Indonesia's strategic partnership with Germany.
This was said by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Germany Abdul Kadir Jailani during the launch of a sophisticated research vessel with a series of high technologies on Thursday.
Indonesia's maritime power has increased again with the arrival of the advanced research ship KRI Canopus-936, which was launched and handed over at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard, Bremen, Germany.
This high-tech Hydro-Oceanographic Assistance (BHO) ship is a tangible symbol of Indonesia's defense modernization as well as an important milestone in the strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Germany.
Indonesian Ambassador Abdul Kadir Jailani, emphasized that KRI Canopus-936 is not just a research vessel, but a national marine data integration center that will strengthen Indonesia's position as a major maritime country.

KRI Canopus-936 presents marine research capabilities that Indonesia has not previously had. With cutting-edge underwater sensor technology, this ship is capable of mapping the sea floor to a depth of 11,000 meters, penetrating the deepest ocean trenches.
This ship is also equipped with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for data collection missions in extreme areas that are difficult for humans to reach.
Apart from its research capabilities, the 105-meter-long ship is designed for long-distance operations and can sail for up to 60 days nonstop, making it a strategic asset in maintaining navigation security, protecting the marine environment, and supporting defense strategies in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Indonesia.
The construction of this ship lasted for 36 months through close cooperation between PT Palindo Marine (Indonesia) and Abeking & Rasmussen (Germany). This project not only produces high-tech ships, but also ensures the transfer of technology that strengthens the independence of the national shipping industry.
KRI Canopus-936 has strategic value, including strengthening the capacity and readiness of the TNI AL defense; Increasing the independence of the defense industry through technology transfer and increasing human resources capacity; and Deepening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in the maritime and technology fields.
