Carrick Praises Sesko Goal even though it only brought Manchester United to a draw

JAKARTA - Michael Carrick praised the extraordinary finish from substitute Benjamin Sesko after a stunning volley in the final minutes earned Manchester United a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham United on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, early morning WIB.

Sesko greeted Bryan Mbeumo's cross six minutes into injury time and fired hard into the top corner to deny West Ham a crucial victory in their fight to avoid relegation.

It was the second time the Slovenian, who has never started under interim manager Carrick, came off the bench and scored late on after his winning goal against Fulham.

"It's always about balance. The players who have played have been fantastic. Ben is working hard."

"He's in good shape and ready to continue to progress. Of course, when he gets on the field, he makes a big difference."

"It was an incredible finish from that angle, to create that opportunity, to direct the ball into the goal, to finish - it was a great goal."

"He's capable of doing that. He always does it. It's not like he's suddenly emerged. He's done it, he's proven that he can score goals. He's also done it in training for us."

"To be honest, it's not surprising. I think that's what he does, that's what he mastered. The last goal must have been very beneficial for him."

"Tonight, it's a little different to the emotion of the game, but of course it's important and a big moment for him and for us," Carrick said.

Manchester United actually wanted to win their fifth consecutive victory in the English League under Carrick's leadership when facing West Ham.

However, unfortunately the target missed. It's just that Carrick is still grateful for one point after Tomas Soucek gave West Ham the lead early in the second half.

"Mixed feelings. We know we're not in the best form. We can give credit to West Ham for that."

"Scoring late goals after having to fight hard is a positive for us. Overall, we can accept one point, and a little bit of a comeback."

"Four wins and one draw from these five games is a positive," Carrick said.

Considering that Manchester United failed to make five consecutive wins, one supporter named Frank Ilett continued to maintain his long hair.

As is known, the Red Devils' supporters who have more than two million followers on social media promised not to cut their hair until their favorite team won five consecutive victories.

Apart from that, this is a disappointment for West Ham. Because of the draw, they failed to pass the red zone. The Hammers are now in 17th place.

"Of course we are disappointed, the players and the supporters. We played very well and were able to hold off a very good team."

"The way we started the second half was very positive, we scored and defended very well. Overall, a very positive defensive performance."

"We had some situations where we could have ended the game. We have to get up from this disappointment. We have to keep going. There is no other way," said coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
