Bring 3 Kg of Cocaine to Bali, Brazilian Citizen Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison

DENPASAR - The Denpasar District Court, Bali, has sentenced a foreign national from Brazil to 18 years in prison for being proven to have brought 3 kilograms of cocaine to Bali.

The verdict against a Brazilian citizen named Yuri Besera Dacosta (25) was read by the Ni Made Okti Mandiani Court of Judges in Denpasar, Thursday, February 12.

"To judge and sentence the defendant Yuri Besera Dacosta 18 years in prison, reduced in full while the defendant is detained," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

In addition, the defendant was fined Rp1 billion.

"If the fine cannot be paid, it will be replaced for 190 days," said the judge.

The Denpasar District Court judge said Yuri was proven to have legally and culpably committed a drug crime as stipulated in Article 610 paragraph (2) letter a of 2026 on adjustment of criminal penalties as the first alternative indictment.

The judge stated that Yuri was proven to have carried 3 kilograms of cocaine.

The judge also stated that the defendant Yuri's actions fulfilled the elements as stipulated in Article 610 Paragraph (2) letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustment as the first alternative indictment.

The sentence and fine imposed on Yuri are higher than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Ni Luh Wayan Adhi Antari, namely 16 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 2 billion with a six-month prison sentence.

Previously, the indictment stated that Yuri carried cocaine weighing 3 kilograms.

In the disclosure of customs officers at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Badung, Bali, Yuri was caught carrying a black plastic wrapped in a transparent plastic containing cocaine.

The results of the examination, the illegal cocaine amounted to 1,564.92 grams net (code A), there was also another black plastic with the same goods but different weight, namely 1,524.44 grams net (code B).

It is known that the prohibited goods were brought by the defendant from Rio De Janeiro-Dubai using the Emirates Airlines EK 248 on behalf of the defendant, then Dubai-Denpasar with the same airline.

The prosecutor also revealed a series of evidence of Yuri's crime, namely, one black plastic wrapped in a transparent plastic containing white powder is a type of cocaine with a weight of 1,564.92 grams net (code A). Then, one black plastic wrapped in a transparent plastic containing white powder is a type of cocaine with a weight of 1,524.44 grams net (code B).

Or the total white powder is cocaine-type narcotics seized from Yuri Bezerra Da Costa is 3,089.36 grams net (codes A and B) and the destruction of evidence was carried out on August 22, 2025, amounting to 1,523.47 grams net (code A).

Then, other evidence, one silver suitcase with the writing Travelite and one black backpack with the writing Samsonite. Furthermore, one boarding pass for Emirates Airlines with flight number EK 248 in the name of Yuri Bezerra Da Costa, Rio De Janeiro-Dubai route. There is also a boarding pass for the same airline with the Dubai-Denpasar route.

Then, one Apple brand cellphone and cash amounting to $670. The evidence was confiscated for the state.
