US Attorney General at Congressional Showdown Asked About Trump's Association with Underage Girl
JAKARTA - US Attorney General Pam Bondi got into a heated argument with a number of US Congress members on the Judiciary Committee during a hearing or hearing to discuss handling the case of sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.
One of them was when Bondi was asked by US Congressman representing California, Ted Lieu. During the meeting, Lie asked if Trump had ever attended a party with an underage girl.
"This is very ridiculous," Bondi replied in a hearing on Wednesday, February 11 local time, quoted from The Guardian.
"And they're trying to distract from all the great things Donald Trump has done. There's no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime. Everybody knows that," he continued.
Responding to the answer, Lieu believed that Bondi's answer was the same as a crime - lying under oath - because Trump's name appeared in connecting moments in the Epstein case file.
In one of the messages in the file, Epstein is said to have told The Guardian that Trump "knew about" the girls, but never got a massage.
Michael Reiter, a former Palm Beach police chief, also told the FBI that Trump told him "everybody knows he's been doing this," when Epstein was under investigation.
Trump's name also appeared in unverified information related to the Epstein case. However, Trump was never charged with a crime and denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
"Don't ever accuse me of a crime," Bondi shouted at Lieu.
In a heated debate with Thomas Massie, a congressman from Kentucky who pushed for legislation requiring the disclosure of Epstein's files, Bondi tried to shift blame from the Trump administration to previous administrations.
Bondi considers Massie not to have intensely urged the previous government regarding the Epstein case. The case of trafficking underage girls and the sexual crimes of wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein, known for his connections with many well-known individuals, including politicians, celebrities, and businessmen, has been going on for decades.
"This spans four administrations. You don't have to go back to Biden. 'Let's go back to Obama'. 'Let's go back to George Bush'. This shutdown has been going on for decades'. You're responsible for this part," said Massie.
