Zero ODOL Applies 2027, Road Damage due to ODOL Trucks Costs Rp. 43 Trillion per Year
JAKARTA - The government targets the implementation of the Zero Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) policy to be effective starting January 2027.
This policy is expected to be able to reduce the cost of maintaining road infrastructure, which has been burdening the state budget.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said ODOL vehicles were the main cause of road and bridge damage in various areas.
He said the Ministry of Public Works issued around Rp. 43 trillion every year for road preservation activities, such as repairing roads that are potholed, cracked, and even crumbling due to overloaded vehicles.
"This damage is not only about infrastructure, but also safety. Many accidents and casualties are caused by ODOL vehicles," AHY told reporters, Thursday, February 12.
To ensure readiness for implementation, the government has been monitoring the Zero ODOL policy for the past one and a half years, ranging from the preparation of regulations, social aspects, to the readiness of logistics business actors and freight drivers.
The government involves various ministries, such as the Ministry of Transportation as a leading sector, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Manpower, and coordinates with the Indonesian National Police.
The Zero ODOL policy is expected to be able to create a safer, more efficient, and sustainable logistics transportation system for the national economy.
