3 Districts in Cirebon Flooded Due to the Overflow of the Cisanggarung River

Cirebon - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cirebon Regency, West Java, said that three sub-districts in the area, namely Losari, Ciledugdan Waled were flooded due to the overflow of water from the Cisanggarung river.

The Cirebon Regency BPBD Data and Information Unit Officer, Gugum Gumilar, said that the current flood was triggered by runoff from the upstream of the Cisanggarung river after heavy rains with high intensity since Wednesday (11/2) night.

"There is water runoff from the Cisanggarung river, especially from the upstream area, it has been raining," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 12.

From the temporary data collection, he said, the water level at a number of points varied between 30 to 60 cm which flooded settlements and residents' access roads.

He said that one of the affected locations was quite large in Barisan Village, Losari District, Cirebon Regency, specifically in Pon Blok Pon Village.

In the area, his party recorded 280 houses submerged in floodwaters with the number of affected residents reaching 289 families (KK) or 840 people.

"Water began to enter the residential area since early Thursday around 04.00 WIB, based on community reports," he said.

In addition to soaking the house, the water puddle caused the access to the Ciledug-Losari road section, Cirebon, to be inaccessible to vehicles.

"Due to this flood, the Ciledug-Losari road access was temporarily closed. However, it can now be passed," he said.

He ensured that the combined personnel had been deployed to the flood site to conduct assessments and handle the impact of the event.

Meanwhile, the head of the Losari Police, Polresta Cirebon, AKP Sugiono, said that the overflow of water from the Cisanggarung River disrupted the activities of residents, especially those living in Barisan Village.

According to him, the water level in the residential area had reached about 50 cm before gradually decreasing to about 20 cm when monitoring was carried out in the morning.

Sugiono said the discharge of the Cisanggarung River during the incident reached around 700 cm, far above the normal threshold of 250 cm, so that the water overflowed and the embankment could not be held back.

"In Losari District, there are three affected villages, namely Barisan, Mulyasaridan Losari Kidul, with the source of the puddle coming from the direct overflow of the river and the discharge of the embankment," he said.
