TikTok Launches Local Feed Feature to Find Content in User's Location
JAKARTA - TikTok has introduced Local Feed, a new feature that connects users with local content. This feature will come in the form of a special tab on the home screen to view nearby content.
In its official release, TikTok said that this feature is designed to make it easier for users who travel to other cities or countries. That way, users can experience the local residents and know the local trends.
In the feed, TikTok will display content from various local creators or small businesses. This feed will also display popular places so that users can get travel ideas.
Local Feed will filter content based on geographic location, relevant topics, and the most recent upload time. This will make it easier for users to get up-to-date information about what is happening in their area.
TikTok guarantees privacy in presenting this feature. Content created by creators under 18 years old will not be displayed in the Local Feed to maintain the safety of adolescents.
In addition, uploads from private accounts or content that is restricted to friends will also not be displayed. To support this feature, TikTok introduced an option to share more accurate GPS location information from the device.
However, TikTok insists that this accurate location access is optional and needs to be manually activated. This accurate location setting will be disabled by default when users access the app for the first time.
The launch of the Local Feed feature is currently being carried out gradually starting from the United States region. It is not known whether the company will expand its feature to other regions in the near future.
