Beef and Egg Prices in Jaktim Rise Ahead of Chinese New Year and Ramadan
JAKARTA - The price of beef and chicken eggs at the Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, has increased ahead of the Chinese New Year and the holy month of Ramadan 2026.
"There is indeed an increase, especially in beef. This is our record to be forwarded to the higher level regarding the policies to be taken," said Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Section of the Directorate of Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) East Jakarta, Theresia Ellita at Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, February 12.
Beef and chicken eggs are the two commodities that feel the most increase at the level of traders and retailers.
Currently, the price of beef in the market is in the range of Rp. 140-Rp. 150 thousand per kilogram. This figure is up around Rp. 10 thousand compared to the previous price which is still in the range of Rp. 130-Rp. 140 thousand per kilogram.
"It has gone up, this increase has started to be felt in the last two weeks," he said.
Even though prices have skyrocketed, Ellita ensured that the availability of beef stocks in East Jakarta is still in a safe condition. However, traders admitted that they did not know the exact cause of the price increase.
"The stock is actually there. Traders are just recipients. From the results of the interview, the price at the level of the animal slaughterhouse (RPH) is already at the highest standard limit," explained Ellita.
In addition to beef, the price of chicken eggs also shows a trend of increase ahead of Ramadan and Chinese New Year.
Public demand for eggs has started to increase as preparations for household needs. The price of chicken eggs, which was previously in the range of Rp. 29 thousand per kilogram, has now risen to around Rp. 31 thousand per kilogram at the retailer level.
"There is a tendency to rise a little," he said.
The Head of the KPKP Jaktim continues to monitor the movement of prices and the availability of food in traditional and modern markets.
The results of the monitoring will be the basis for a report to the provincial government and relevant ministries.
This step is taken to anticipate a higher price of food and fuel during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
With continuous supervision, the East Jakarta City Government is optimistic that the community's need for beef and chicken eggs will continue to be met even though there has been an increase in demand at the time of religious holidays.
